Festival of Choirs

On Saturday evening, Ashirvad hosted the ‘Festival of Choirs’ event, held at Centre Point school in Nagpur. This concert was organised by Marty and he has spent many hours over the last few weeks working with various schools in preparation. 

In Nagpur, there is a real lack of teaching and expertise in Western music. As mentioned earlier, Marty has already conducted a workshop for music teachers. As a flow on from this, this concert was organised in conjunction with two of the local music teachers. 

The concert was open to all of the local schools – participating choirs performed two items on their own, and Marty co-ordinated two group songs, one at the beginning and one at the end of the concert, which involved all the choirs (around 150 students). 

In the lead up to the concert, Marty visited the various schools and spent some hours with their choirs, working on the two group songs, as well as teaching general skills and techniques. 

The concert was a huge success – all those in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the performances, and the schools and their teachers are full of praise for Marty and the way he has helped them through his skills and expertise. 

Although this kind of thing is what Marty does on a regular basis in Australia, it’s certainly not common here – in fact, Marty has caused such a positive sensation, that he has featured in three newspaper articles, which covered the concert and his visits to the schools!! 

The wonderful thing is that this concert has given exposure to Ashirvad Kanti and the important work they are doing. The Ashirvad children also took part in the concert and they were absolutely gorgeous!
